LIVING PLOT TO PLATE

SO HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY LIVE PLOT TO PLATE?

Firstly you do not need an allotment to grow your own foods.  Many can be grown in existing gardens, pots, containers and even on kitchen windowcills. Below you will find a range of tips & staples (things we make as store cupboard ingredients and everyday items). We have growing advice for a whole range of fruit, veg, edible flowers and herbs. Once you have successfully gown your produce what can you actually do with it? Well this is where our recipes come in.  Everything featured here we have grown, preserved and eaten ourselves!

You can read about us in more details here and on our blog post here. In short, we are two people (a husband and wife) with full time jobs, a family and commitments.  We are not full time producers or professionals.  We still manage to grow, preserve and eat as much home grown food as possible.  Whilst cutting down on Ultra Processed Foods and our need for shop bought items we have along the way created a sustainable way of living.  The produce on our allotment has a "food mile" of about half a mile.  This is from "Plot To Plate"

Our allotment is a 5x25m plot.  It is not massive. We plan what we grow and make as much use of the space as possible.  Before the allotment we grew items in a pots in our paved yard.  We live in the Lake District so our growing season consists of wet, cold, snow and more wet. The sun makes a brief appearance for about 82 hours a year.

If you are an absolute novice at growing but like the idea we have a blog post here that's well worth a read.

You may also find many community gardens that allow you to us a small patch or let you help out.  This way you can given growing your own a go without the need for any major expense or equipment.

Sit down with a cuppa (ours is Earl Grey please) and have a read.  Any questions at all please contact us.  We also have a free Facebook Group with loads of brilliant members all bringing different advice to the table.

As a thank you for reading and showing an interest, we would like to offer you some free seeds.  These are wild flower seeds to help attract bees and butterflies.  Please contact us and we will get these sent to you.
